The Giving Tree
The Giving Tree is something that was originally set up eight years ago to give an extra boost during the holidays to the student’s at Rolling Meadows who are in need. To create the tree, the staff was asked to hang gift cards to serve as ornaments. The tree, which was set up in the attendance office, was titled the giving tree due to its generous nature. Once the gift cards are all gathered, the sponsors of the student council make gift bags for each person receiving a gift from the Giving Tree (including some chocolates, a t-shirt and sweatshirt for the student recipients.) The caring staff at Meadows donates about $3000 worth of gift cards every year.
Madrigal Dinner
The 36th Annual Madrigal Dinner take’s place on Sunday, December 18th at 5 pm at The Cotillion Banquets in Palatine. RMHS students bring their Holiday cheer and provide a Renaissance-like experience for the Rolling Meadows community. From the caroling to the skits, it’s a very memorable event for all who join in on the merry fun.
Daily Herald and Arts Unlimited Competition
The annual Daily Herald and D214 Arts Unlimited Art and Writing Contest are announced to be accepting submissions from now until March 1st. All students are allowed to submit their best pieces of art or writing and 12 winners (6 in literary arts, 6 in visual arts) have their work featured in the Arts Unlimited anthology. Another selection may have the opportunity to be published in the Daily Herald. It is a good opportunity for students to spread their art to the community.

Food Drive
All Saints Lutheran Church Food Pantry (who recently opened a second mobile food pantry delivery in the Rolling Meadows area), Student Council, and Rotary Interact worked together on the 29th annual Thanksgiving Food Drive this year. Rolling Meadows High School has been known for supporting the community through this event with donations from students and staff. Food was collected from the local area between November 14th and 20th, and distributed to those who need it the most.
artEXPO
This year’s one day only artEXPO was held on Saturday, December 3rd. District 214 in combination with the feeder middle schools had the beautiful works from students at each level of art on display at the Forest View Educational Center. Although the exhibit was digitized in the previous year, people were given the opportunity to walk around and see the art works in person. The show gives students a chance to show off the pieces they had put a lot of work into throughout the year, but also gather inspiration from the works showcased from other schools. It’s one of the many art shows that RMHS looks forward to everyyear.
