6 songs to listen to during the Holidays

Whether you are decorating your Christmas tree, on your way to the mall to get gifts for family members, or studying for finals, a soundtrack with all of the best holiday songs is sure to boost your mood. I have compiled a list of six of my favorite modern and classic holiday songs that you can add to your playlist or just press play if they are already on yours. I promise I won”t judge you if you were already listening to these before Thanksgiving. I think we all need a little extra holiday spirit this year.

  1. Mariah Carey, “All I Want for Christmas Is You”

I’m sure many of us have heard at least someone on the radio say, “Mariah Carey is the queen of Christmas” and they aren’t wrong. “All I Want for Christmas Is You”  was released in 1994, but it continues to surge in popularity each holiday season. According to Entertainment Weekly, Carey’s hit Christmas song has returned to No. 1 on the American charts this year, and, to date, the song has been listened to 812 million times on Spotify.

  1. Wham! “Last Christmas”

“Last Christmas” is a song by an English pop duo, Wham! It focuses on the sadder part of the Christmas season when emotions from a breakup can surface. Even if you have not been through a breakup, it’s a fun song to sing with friends that never gets old.

  1. Justin Bieber, “Mistletoe”

I think we all need to keep a little Justin Beiber in our lives. His songs bring me back to my childhood so why not throw in a Christmas one as well. “Mistletoe” was released in 2011 in his album titled Under the Mistletoe.

  1. Andy Williams, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”

This classic song that was recorded in 1963 will surely put you in the holiday spirit. Williams even says “It’s the hap-happiest season of all.”

  1. Bing Crosby, “White Christmas”

Dave's Music Database: Bing Crosby hit #1 with "White Christmas" fifty years ago today (10/31/1942)

This classic hit was sung by Bing Crosby that details a picturesque Christmas setting is one of the most popular holiday songs ever. Guinness World Records named it the best selling single of all time and its estimated sales are over 50 million copies worldwide.

  1. Michael Bublé, “Cold December Night”

I’m sure many of us have listened to Michael Bublé sing “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas”. He is one of the most popular singers when the Christmas season approaches each year. I am particularly hooked on one of his less popular holiday songs, “Cold December Night”, which uncovers a little love story that occurs, of course, around Christmas time.
