On Jan. 15, 2021, the first two episodes of “WandaVision” were released on Disney+. For fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the series has been heavily anticipated since “Avengers: Endgame” broke box office records in 2019. Finally, it’s here and it did not come to disappoint. The show is unlike any other and is truly a captivating masterpiece. 

The stars of the show, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olson) and Vision (Paul Bettany) are both recurring characters seen throughout the marvel movies. Paul Bettany actually played a role in the first MCU movie, “Iron Man (2008)”. Bettany originally voiced J.A.R.V.I.S, the artificial intelligence system used by Tony Stark. It wasn’t until “Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)” though that Bettany became Vision. “ Avengers: Age of Ultron” also was the first MCU movie to introduce Wanda Maximoff. There we get the first glimpse of her and her incredible powers. While watching the show, viewers will even get to discover more about Maximoff’s backstory and the events seen in Age of Ultron.

To summarize the show and exclude spoilers, “WandaVision” takes place after the events of “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”, where Vision is supposedly dead, and Wanda recently returned after being dusted away. Now the two of them are somehow stars of a 50’s sitcom. As each episode progresses to the next decade, things around Westview, New Jersey get crazier and crazier. It’s difficult to explain the show without spoilers because in the beginning it quite frankly makes no sense. But as the events unfold and viewers start to make connections and theorize, “WandaVision” is addicting. 

For older marvel fans like myself, this show is extremely exciting. Something that makes it so great is that there are lots of familiar faces among characters as well as many references to past Marvel films and even comics. Some of the characters we get to see are Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings), who appeared in the first two Thor films, and multiple Thor comics. Another character is Jimmy Woo (Randall Park), who was seen in the movie “Ant-Man and The Wasp”.

Beyond those two there are countless references to past Marvel movies and Marvel comics, and eventually, there are even scenes that show events that happened regarding previous Avengers movies and plots. Receiving more content and information about previous Marvel movies has been very rewarding. After the events of “Avengers: Endgame” it was sad to know that we would never see many loved characters again. “WandaVision” however has given Marvel fans an opportunity to get more of the characters we have for so long known and loved.

With countless television and movie options, it can be difficult for shows to find new ideas to wow their audience. “WandaVision” has blown viewers to a whole new level. It’s simply one of the best series I’ve seen in a while, which is to be expected of Marvel Studios. They bring a whole new element of mystery and suspense to the screen which makes this series extremely unique and terribly good. For new and old Marvel fans alike, “WandaVision” is a spectacular new series and is most definitely worth watching.
