Metroid is an action series that was first released in 1986 on the Nintendo Entertainment System. It then spanned a series of sequels. Metroid 2 The Return of Seamus, Super Metroid, and then Metroid Fusion. Metroid Fusion was the fourth installment released 2002. The series wouldn’t continue until nineteen years after Metroid Fusion. Metroid Dread is the fifth and final installment of the series and took a long time to release; mainly because it was pitched as an idea before, but because of the technology back in the day they couldn’t achieve their goals. The project was cancelled many times but finally, on October 8, Metroid Dread was finally released for Nintendo Switch.

You play as Samus Aron, a galactic bounty hunter investigating different planets. She lands on a planet called planet ZDR, while exploring, she faces a mysterious creature that overpowers her in battle. She blacks out at the end of the battle and reawakens later. She notices that most of her powers are gone and she must search for her powers and exit the planet. Throughout the game, Samus will explore different environments and face up against large creatures she must defeat. Some that possess some of her powers. Samus will also have to contend with these research robots called the E.M.M.I. They patrol certain areas on the planet and they will constantly search for Samus. She must use her different abilities to sneak past the E.M.M.I.S.

The gameplay is pretty solid. Samus’s movement is really smooth especially when in combat and the E.M.M.I segments really put the dread in Metroid Dread. Each of them have a different ability that makes it easier for them to catch you. The O\overall gameplay is really well polished.

The art design is pretty cool. There are a lot of cool sci-fi areas with different species of creatures to find. The different facilities where the E.M.M.I.S reside look really creepy and amazing.

The soundtrack is pretty decent. There are some ambient tracks and some really tense tracks. There’s not much to really say other than it fits with the game.

In conclusion, Metroid Dread is a pretty entertaining game and is a great next installment for the series.
