Spiderman No Way Home: A Look Into the Hype
When “Avengers: Endgame” was released it broke box office records, becoming one of the highest anticipated movies of all time. Now, another Marvel film has unexpectedly gained an incredible amount of excitement from starved superhero fans. “Spider-man: No Way Home,” which premieres on Dec. 16th, 2021 has Marvel fans held tightly by their collars. The film has already racked up an impressive amount of ticket sales, especially due to COVID-19, which has majorly derailed movie theaters. When tickets went on sale on Nov. 29th, every website that sold them was flooded with hungry fans, eager to see the new Spider-man movie. From AMC to Fandango, their online sites crashed before the clock even hit 12:01, the time at which tickets went on sale. It was easier getting seats for the “Avengers: Endgame” premiere.
So why are people so excited for this film? It’s no secret how loved Marvel movies are, but “Spider-man: No Way Home” very quickly destroyed “Black Widow”s pre-sale records. Long before the cinematic universe came around, Stan Lee was writing Marvel comics. Spiderman has always been a favorite, which is reflected in the previous Spider-man films with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire.
MCU finally decided to introduce Tom Holland’s Spider-man in “Captain America: Civil war” back in 2016. Then he received his own movie, “Spider-man: Homecoming”, in 2017. Very quickly, many fell in love with this new portrayal. People simply love Spider-man, and it’s been a while without content from some of the more popular characters. Of course “Black Widow” was released back in July 2021, but sadly it did not hold the same hype, largely for misogynistic reasons. “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “Eternals” were also not nearly as anticipated, presumably because they followed new characters who were not a part of the previous infinity stone arc. Even though Spider-man was introduced to the MCU much more recently than Black Widow, he has been around for a long time and many people feel a strong connection to Peter Parker.
Perhaps another reason why “Black Widow” was not as successful is that when the film was released, Natasha Romanoff’s storyline had already ended. Spider-man still has so much opportunity in the MCU, no one knows what will happen in this film. When fans watched “Black Widow” for the first time, they already knew how the story would end.
“Spider-man: No Way Home” holds a million possibilities. The theories are endless, and everyone is incredibly excited to see what happens. Maybe Garfield and Maguire will make a surprise appearance, maybe MJ or Ned will die, which would be utterly devastating, but honestly is a scary possibility. No matter what happens, this movie is guaranteed to be incredible. Make sure you get your tickets quickly, and please refrain from spoiling it for fellow Marvel fans.
