Disney’s “Encanto” Review

Encanto is a movie from Walt Disney’s Animation Studios about the Madrigal family that lives in the mountains of Colombia. The entire family has gifts except for one member, Mirabel. When she notices cracks in the house they live in, their miracle is in trouble and she tries to find a way to save it.

If you have seen Moana and Coco, you could say the movie is a great mix of them both. It has a good family aspect to it, along with culture. It also portrays finding out who you are and where you belong in your family and the world.  

This movie was released back in November of 2021 and received a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. It has over 5,000 audience reviews and has an overall 4.4 out of 5 rating. The movie earned about 222.6 million dollars in box office and has an exquisite soundtrack with over 30 unique songs.

The music was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Germaine Franco. The song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” passed Frozen’s “Let It Go” to become the highest-charting Disney animated hit song in 26 years. The music is a good representation of Colombian culture and life.

This movie has amazing life lessons and can be relatable to a lot of people. One life lesson that has impacted a lot of people throughout the world is the idea that you can’t do everything on your own and that’s okay. The song, “Surface Pressure” sung by Jessica Darrow really portrays this.
