DECA:

DECA is a club designed for students interested in careers such as marketing, finance, management, etc. Members learn communication and leadership skills by competing with other schools at the area, State and National level. This year is obviously tricky when it comes to in-person events, but the district’s DECA advisors are discussing a safe plan for the annual district competition.  Matthew Weinberg is DECA’s new advisor this year. DECA is a student-run organization and this year seven RMHS students are wolfing hard to make as beneficial as possible. Meetings are being held virtually and members have discussed how to create opportunities to develop professionally, help the community, collaborate and prepare for competition. There is still optimism that larger competitions will still occur. 

Interact:

Interact is a club that highlights the power of community service. They learn the importance of showing helpfulness towards others and participate in a variety of service projects each year. Due to the pandemic, finding ways to volunteer is definitely harder, but making Halloween themed masks, having a Zoom read-aloud for elementary school students and planning a Breast Cancer fundraiser in some fashion are all on the agenda for possible October events. In past years, Interact members have helped at the Santa Run, packed meals at Feed My Starving Children and participated in the “Giving Tree” by shopping for gifts for families. This year, “Empower Girls Guatemala” is the international project Interact will be working on during the second semester. The goal is to raise money for reusable period products. General meetings take place on Zoom during the last Friday of each month at 9 am. Contact Izabella Wnek if you would like to join the Schoology page. 

F.C.C.L.A (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America):

Students involved in F.C.C.L.A participate in regional and state competitions in Springfield that test skills in areas such as foods, clothing, child development and interior design. This year F.C.C.L.A will be preparing for the competitions to be virtual. There are over fifteen competitions to participate in. Some of them include making a prom dress, cookie decorating or even creating a lesson for small children. There is still uncertainty when it comes to how the club will run exactly, but the club’s sponsor, Kimmi Krupicka, is determined to figure out a way to enable club members to showcase their talents. If you are interested in developing skills for life and being in a leadership role, join F.C.C.L.A! 

Student Council:

Student Council is a club that allows students to share their voices and contribute to planning events that elevate happiness within the student body. It provides opportunities for any student to become a leader in the school. With remote learning being in place, the Student Council is meeting through Zoom calls. By communicating on Zoom and using shared files, they are still able to work in groups to discuss various activities they have planned. The most current project they have announced is “HomeStaying Week” which took take place Oct. 13-16 as a replacement to normal Homecoming week activities. They hoped to instill spirit just like in years past by continuing the tradition of dress-up days and coordinating activities like trivia and movie night through Zoom.
