November 6th marked the unveiling of the 38th annual Harper Area High School Art Show which is back in person this year. From now until December 1st, Harper College will display the beautiful works of District 214, 211, and Barringtons’ school districts in the college’s buildings A and C. 

For the Rolling Meadow’s display, teachers considered the best works among all the art classes.  “We have a very limited space, so it is a big deal to be included,” says Martha Nava, an art teacher recently recognized at the Rolling Meadows Gala alongside Ms. Catherine Pach. While a majority of the works were from students in advanced classes, there were also a handful of selections from beginner classes.

Six of the 50 students selected from Rolling Meadows included in the showcase were recognized at the Harper 2022 awards ceremony on November 30th. For their outstanding 2-dimensional art, Senior Cameron Herman placed 1st, senior Laura Cardona Saganome placed 2nd, and Junior Neo Bermudez placed 3rd for the Harper Award. In the 3-Dimensional Art category, freshman Aaron Sang placed 1st, freshman Emily Sang placed 2nd, and junior Emily Podejko placed 3rd. In addition, senior Lorelei Osterlund, junior Zyla Jaski, senior Samantha Kuo, sophomore Makayla Ceballos, and freshman Hannah Oh received an honorable mention during the ceremony. 

These students were given the opportunity to do what they loved, make art. “I’ve always been interested in art ever since I was a kid… I’m really glad I’m making something I can be proud of,” Jaski said. It is clear to see the amount of craftsmanship each of the students put into the art they made, and being able to take part in the showcase is truly an amazing accomplishment.
