Clubs in schools have loads of opportunities for students and have been linked to excelling/doing well in classes. One club that has emerged recently at RMHS is Esports, which is run by staff member Ian Shacklette, in room E115. Esports is a club that is about playing video games competitively across schools with others who share a passion for gaming. This club has a variety of games that are played, meaning everyone gets a chance to participate and show off their skills at whichever game they are best at. Some of the games that they play range from Fortnite, Competitive Mario games, Valorant etc.
Esports, like many clubs/activities, help students get more involved in school activities, while also creating lasting friendships. Esports has recently undergone a movement towards being more accessible for students to access both online or in person, meaning students are allowed to join via wifi at home or in person, as Esports advocates heavily on student inclusion. Since not all students have access to a perfect schedule, making events is not required as long as notice is given to sponsors of the club in advance.
Many Clubs, like Esports, have helped students improve their socializing skills, boost their self confidence, and ability to make friends. If you want to find clubs like Esports you can find them on the Rolling Meadows Co-Curriculars, Activity Tab on the D214.org site.
