Join Art Club!
The Members of the Rolling Meadows Art Club have put their creativity to extraordinary uses this past year.
The Club has been working on a mural at the Kirchoff underpass for almost a year, and it is finally complete. The ribbon cutting ceremony (https://youtu.be/puLdqNiscYA) unveiling the Art Club’s finished work was held in July. It had even gained attention from the Daily Herald, the mayor of Rolling Meadows, and many others. What started off as a small idea grew into something much bigger.
“It’s pretty cool to know I contributed to this and it will be here forever,” said junior Emily Podejko. These students created history, and their work is incredible.
The murals completion is credited to teachers Martha Nava, Catherine Pach, and students Paula Andonis (senior), Mariam Beshara (sophomore), Mikaela Carreon (sophomore), Paige Cosico (graduate), Natalia Grzeda (senior), Jessica Hernandez (senior), Sophie Lewin (sophomore), Dustin McMichael (graduate), Shelby Paluch (graduate), Emily Podejko, Jackie Sanchez (senior), Alexandra Segura (junior), Christina Tsvetkova (senior), Adriel Velasco (senior), as well as the local JC Licht store, and the Rolling Meadows Park District.
Additionally, on the 28th of August, members of Art Clubs across District 214 volunteered and sold their art at “A Walk in the Park fine art fair” in Arlington Heights. They sold jewelry, bowls, dog toys, and prints to raise funds for the D214 art scholarship that is given to three students each year.
There’s more to come from this club. This year, Nava and Pach plan to do monthly demos for students to follow along with if they choose to do so. Students of all levels are welcome to join in on the activities.
“It’s a fun place where you can meet new people and try new things,” said sophomore Evelyn Marro.
In the words of Nava, “Come, and bring a friend.”
