This past October, the Shannon McNamara Memorial 5k run/walk took place at Rolling Meadows High School for the 23rd year, in remembrance of Shannon McNamara. Shannon McNamara passed away on June 12, 2001, as she was tragically killed in her apartment in Charleston, while a student at Eastern Illinois University. McNamara was involved in track and field: a skilled sprinter and long-jumper – setting a record at Rolling Meadows High in the 100-meter dash. At Harper, McNamara was a Junior College All-American two years in a row.
This event is held the Sunday before Halloween, all you have to do is sign up at The Rolling Meadows Park District website and search, Shannon McNamara 5k run/walk then just sign up and show your support! This event covers a 5k run, 2-mile walk and kid’s fun run. Whether you enjoy running, walking or wanting to show remembrance and support to the McNamara family, you can participate!
When the time comes back around, show your support and wear your Halloween costume for next year’s event.
