Rolling Meadows High School’s very own “V-Show in Space” was a perfect close to the intergalactic theme for the 23-24 marching band season. The preceding One Small Step show truly was out of this world, but seeing V-Show left you starry eyed with the range of talents working on and behind the stage.
The show opened with a beautiful piano performance by sophomore Sydney Carlson. Carlson played a tune from the soundtrack of the film Interstellar, a difficult piece that Carlson performed with the utmost ease. Working on sound for the show made me appreciate Carlson’s playing even more, as she played in perfect time with the video montage, never missing a beat. Carlson wasn’t the only musical talent that blew the crowd away, our very own RMHS drum line had a captivating cadence that was elevated by the playing of Gavan Boudreau. Boudreau’s solo on his instrument involved him hanging upside down before dropping his sticks in achievement at the end.
Aside from the spectacular musical performances, Continuity as a group this year was more than two-thirds seniors, and with an equally-hilarious performance by many of the same talents at last year’s “V-Show Goes Hollywood”, it’s difficult to imagine how next year’s V-Show will change with the shift in actors writing and performing the skits. This is definitely a production that carries so much diversity, many performances that appeal to many – make sure to check out next year’s production of the Variety Show.
