The film also stars Arianna DeBose known for Kraven the Hunter, Wish, and Argyle. The film’s director is Jonathan Eusebio who is known for doing stunts and fight scenes in other movies. Love Hurts was released February seventh 2025 it has made 16,110,490 dollars at the box office worldwide against a 18,000,000 budget.
The film follows Marvin Gable after he gets out of his brother Knuckles’ crime business and becomes a realtor, and his secret love Rose, an ex-member of Knuckles’ gang and is one after she was framed and saved by Marvin. On the same day Martin wins a realtor award Rose, returns and inadvertently brings his old life back to him. She asks his help to regain their lives and to take down his brother and his right hand man.
The movie’s leads are mediocre. Marvin is by far the best since the story is centered around him. He is in almost every fight scene. Rose is ok, she has a side plot that really makes Knuckles’ right hand manas the main villain. Her story confused me and kinda side lined Knuckles as the villain. Knuckles was a bland villain I remember two scenes with him and not much else of. The main aren’t anything special being ok.
The two best parts of the film are fight scenes and side characters. The action scenes in particular carried the movie from start to finish. They are extremely well choreographed and so much care is put into them. The characters in the fights have their own that make sense for each character. Martin Gable, Knuckles and his rival the Raven are amazing fighters while the rest of the cast are great fighters but not on their level.
I really liked the side characters in the movie. There are two gang members who try to hunt down Marvin and Rose and they made me laugh more than most characters in the movie. The Raven had a really fun poetry gimmick and he had some awesome weapons that added a lot to the fight scenes. I also really liked Marvin’s depressed assistant Ashly. Ashley is the first character to understand the Raven’s poetry and then she and the Raven fall in love.
I had one massive problem that out-shined all the other problems in the movie and was Marvin and Rose being in love. They are the leads of the movie and despite them being a majority of the movie together I can’t buy that they are in love. Their romance is mentioned briefly in Marvin and Rose’s thoughts and at the end but it feels like it could be cut and almost nothing would change. Their relationship is meant to be the reason Marvin saved Rose but instead it feels like filler they forgot they needed to add until reshoots.
The movie as a whole feels like it could have been a lot better. The trailers made the movie look a lot better than it was. My rating of Love Hurts is a 4/10. I would recommend it if you love great action or a silly love story. Love Hurts has a 5.4 on IMDb and 18% on Rotten Tomatoes.
