Junior Jared Murphy eclipsed a major milestone this past weekend, becoming just the sixth person in Rolling Meadows history to score 1,000 total points.

“Now that I have actually surpassed the 1000 point mark, it’s crazy to think that only a few others have done the same [thing],” Murphy said. “While this is a great honor, winning is the ultimate goal, and a regional championship would be an even better way to end the season.”

This comes after Murphy, a guard, earned Daily Herald MVP honors just last week after consecutive standout performances. In nailbiter against Elk Grove (Meadows ended up losing by one), Murphy scored a game-high 27 points.

In their very next game, Murphy scored a career-high 32 points, leading his team to a win in a double overtime thriller against Maine East, 77-75. Murphy went 12 for 16 from the charity stripe, and scored all five points in the first overtime quarter. To seal the deal, he sank two crucial free throws in the final overtime quarter.

Murphy almost tied his career-high two games later against Glenbard South, where he was a perfect nine for nine from the free throw line, and added nine field goals. Junior Jack Schoessling added nine points, while senior John Lothery hit four three-pointers for 12 points. Despite their best efforts, the Mustangs fell short again by one point, with a final score of 66-67.
