Week three postmortem: Top fantasy football waiver wire pickups
Need some killer waiver wire pickups? Copy editor Sahil Shah has got you covered.
RB Jordan Howard, Chicago Bears (Owned in 32 percent of leagues)
If you need a running back, look no further. Even though he is on the Chicago Bears, Howard became a legitimate fantasy option last week, especially in PPR, totalling 47 yards on four receptions. He also rushed for 45 yards on nine carries. With former starter Jeremy Langford out for four to six weeks with an ankle issue, Howard instantly starts. If backup QB Brian Hoyer continues to start, the Bears will need to lean on their running game, making Howard a feature back this Sunday.
WR Terrelle Pryor, Cleveland Browns (Owned in 26 percent of leagues)
Pryor did a bit of everything last Sunday. He played four positions (quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and safety), and had a statistically significant game, totalling eight receptions on 144 yards through the air and 21 yards and a touchdown on the ground. With wide receivers Corey Coleman (out four to six weeks with a broken hand) and Josh Gordon (suspended one more week) still unable to take the field, Pryor is the main receiver on the Browns, and he will receive a lot of targets a game. Take a look at him, especially in PPR leagues.
WR Michael Thomas, New Orleans Saints (Owned in 46 percent of leagues)
Michael Thomas is a prototypical big, physical wide receiver that Drew Brees absolutely loves. Last week, Thomas hauled in seven catches for 71 yards, adding a touchdown. The rookie is already drawing comparisons to former Brees favorite Marques Colston. With Brandin Cooks drawing double teams, Thomas is left in man to man coverage. Plus, the Saints throw the ball around 50 times a game, and that kind of high-volume is the stuff fantasy owners dream of.
