The RMHS football team continues their undefeated season with a current record of 8-0. The Mustangs are 4-0 so far within the conference, which has lead the team to accomplish their big goal this season: to win the MSL East title.

Even though the boys have remained undefeated throughout the season, it doesn’t mean this season hasn’t been hard for them. Every day the boys have practice which consists of watching film and working out to get stronger, faster and become a better player mentally and physically.

“We prepare every week by watching film and going as hard as we can during practice,” junior outside linebacker and tight end Sean Nolan said.

Since the Mustang’s first game, many improvements have been made. From hard work and experience in their games, they have gotten faster and stronger while having better connections on the field with each other.

“Since game one, I think our team has improved on communicating together and everyone knowing what each other is doing [on the field],” junior strong safety Nife Oseni said.

Although the Mustangs are undefeated, they still have had their obstacles this season.

“We have had a lot of guys sick this year and some with injuries,” Head Coach Matt Mishler said. “The biggest obstacle has been making sure that we aren’t complacent.”

The team this season got a quick start to each game by out scoring their opponent in the first half, except for their game against Palatine. During that game, the Pirates scored first, to make the score 7-0, but then the Mustangs reciprocated and tied up the score at 7-7. Although in the second quarter, the Mustangs outscored Palatine and pulled away to eventually win the game.

“The toughest game [so far] was our game against Palatine because that was the first team to come fast at us and we just needed to adjust our scheme,” Oseni said.

Even though the Pirates did challenge the Mustangs in the first quarter, the team’s biggest game was against Hersey. Going into the game, both teams were undefeated and clinched a spot to the playoffs.

There were only two more things left undecided between the two teams heading into the game: who was going to win the MSL East title and who was walking away undefeated.

“The leadership [on the team] is tremendous and their joy for the game is evident on a daily basis,” Mishler said.

The Mustangs were up against the Huskies 24-13 at halftime. During the fourth quarter, Hersey made a comeback against Rolling Meadows to make the score 28-24. But the Mustangs weren’t done yet. The Mustangs came back against the Huskies in order to make the final score 38-35.

The football team is now one step closer to winning the MSL East, with their win against Hersey. Now having one win over hersey, the Mustangs will have a higher playoff seed, so they will play against a lower seeded team.

The Mustangs have their last regular season game against Buffalo Grove, who are 4-3, on October 19, at 7:30 at Buffalo Grove before they start their playoff run.
