The RMHS football team has once again made another run in the playoffs, but this time making it to the semi-finals for the first time since 2004. While finishing the regular season with a perfect record, the Mustangs have continued to win, beating Lincoln Park, Prospect and Wheaton Warrenville South High School. 

With the stakes being a State championship, the Mustangs have been preparing rigorously in order to improve their play on both offense and defense. 

“Our team has prepared differently for playoffs by only focusing on the game at the end of the week, and not focusing on next week like in the regular season,” senior Jordan Wiles said. “We know that if we lose it’s over for us.” 

The team has had ups and downs during each game, like every team does, but the Mustangs quickly came back to make big plays, which helped them to victory.

“I think our strengths have been getting our good starts,” senior Sean Nolan said. “We just have to limit big plays on defense and turnovers on offense.”

To get through those three games, the team has improved their game immensely. In their last playoff game against Wheaton Warrenville South, the Mustangs held them to only a field goal. 

“I think we’ve just continued to work on the little things that can make us better,” Head Coach Matt Mishler said. “All year we’ve focused on getting better every day and every week.”

The team has been dominant, especially on defense, but has also stepped up their offense in order to rack up points against these teams in the playoffs. The Mustangs have outscored their opponents 79-29. 

“Our offense has made huge strides these last three weeks and our defense has really been dominant all season long,” junior Daniel Sobkowicz said. 

The Mustangs will continue their playoff stride against defending State champion Nazareth Academy on Saturday, November 23 at 1 p.m. Nazareth is also undefeated this season and is ranked 6th in Ill.
