NFL Predictions: Week 4

The Pacer’s Sammi France breaks down her predictions for NFL week 4 matchups.

Broncos (0-3) vs. Jets (0-3)

Well, I think Thursday Night’s game will be just as exciting as last week. Just kidding, it won’t. But at least one team will come out with a win after week four. With the Broncos naming Brett Rypien as their starting quarterback, they need Melvin Gordon and Jerry Jeudy to step up this week to help out their weak offense. But, it’s not like they’re up against a great Jets offense, the Jets have one of the worst offense in the league, partially to their head coach Adam Gase. But, with the lack of pass rush and many other problems on their defense, I think the Broncos will pull out with a win on this boring matchup.

Broncos 27 Jets 23

Saints (1-2) vs. Lions (1-2)

Coming into this season, I don’t think many people would expect the Saints and the Lions to have the same record. With both defenses giving up an average of at least 30 points, both quarterbacks will look good this week. Still, without Michael Thomas, the Saints will have to continue to rely on Alvin Kamara as they did against the Packers where he had 139 receiving yards for 13 receptions and 58 rushing yards on 6 attempts. While coming off a win, the Lions need to use their weapons as they did against the Cardinals to help them stay in the game. However, I think the Saints will be strong this week and come out with a win against the Lions.

Saints 31 Lions 27

Chargers (1-2) vs. Buccaneers (2-1)

Now with two games under his belt, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will be put to the test against the Buccaneers defense. The Chargers defense will face a tough Buccaneers offense led by Tom Brady but they are missing wide receiver, Chris Godwin, who is one of their top receivers. However, the Chargers defense will need to start forcing more turnovers to try to stop Brady’s offense. But with the Buccaneers defense playing well this season, Herbert will struggle and might throw an interception or two. So, Tom Brady will look good this week and bring the Buccaneers to a 3-1 record.

Buccaneers 31 Chargers 24

Jaguars (1-2) vs. Bengals (0-2-1)

Another exciting matchup in week four. Not really. The Bengals are looking for their first win of the season and they might have a chance to this week against the Jaguars. With the Jaguars having some problems on their defense, I think the Bengals will have an excellent passing game but need to improve their running game a lot. So, the Bengals need to utilize Joe Mixon against this defense. Even though I think this won’t be an exciting game, I think it will let Burrow get more confidence in himself and his team, so this could be a good game to watch if you are a Burrow fan. This will be a close one, but the Bengals will pull out with their first win of the season.

Bengals 31 Jaguars 28

Vikings (0-3) vs. Texans (0-3)

Coming into week 4, I don’t think that I would’ve said that the Vikings would not have a win. Both of these teams have looked bad through the first three weeks, which is why both head coaches are being looked at every game now. Despite bringing back all five starting offensive linemen, Deshaun Watson has been sacked 13 times, which is the second-most in the NFL, so the Vikings defense will be dominant this week in terms of pass-rushing. But, the Viking have also had their struggles with their own offensive line, so the Texans defense will have fun with that. Although they are both 0-3, the Texans have had a tougher schedule than the Vikings, who just looked bad against decent teams. So, I think the Texans will come out of this game with their first win of the season.

Texans 28 Vikings 24

Seahawks (3-0) vs. Dolphins (1-2)

The Dolphins better be ready for the Seahawks as Russell Wilson is playing at an MVP level right now. Although the Seahawks defense is giving up around four touchdowns a game, they will be just fine because the Dolphins offense does not have a lot of talent around Ryan Fitzpatrick. So, the Seahawks defense will look much improved on Sunday. Wilson and his offense will put up big numbers this week, totally dominating this game. So, I am expecting at least four touchdown passes for Wilson this week and coming out with a big win for the Seahawks to improve their record to 4-0.

Seahawks 34 Dolphins 14

Steelers (3-0) vs. Titans (3-0)

Unfortunately, Steelers and Titans fans will have to wait until later in the season for this game because the NFL has postponed it due to multiple positive COVID-19 cases on the Titans. So, the game is most likely to be pushed to a Monday night game later in the season.

Browns (2-1) vs. Cowboys (1-2)

Coming into this season, not many people would think that the Browns would have a better record than the Cowboys. But, the Cowboys have struggled this season, mostly due to their defense giving up 78 points in the last two games. The Browns, however, are coming off a solid win against Washington and have a winning record for the first time since 2011. But, Dak Prescott is looking good this season, which will be the main reason the Cowboys will win this game. With Ezekiel Elliot and their strong receiving core, they will actually look like a decent team against the Browns and their defense hopefully won’t give up too many big plays.

Cowboys 34 Browns 23

Colts (2-1) vs. Bears (3-0)

The Bears should not be 3-0. They were lucky that De’Andre Swift dropped a pass in the endzone one of the final plays during their first game, they were lucky that the Giants weren’t able to come back during the last drive of that game, and they were lucky that the Falcons choked once again. But, I don’t think they will get lucky this game. However, I think they will still play well this game with new starting quarterback Nick Foles. The Colts have been looking good since their first game though, they held Kirk Cousins to less than 100 passing yards in their game against the Vikings and will have a big effect on this game. They also have been relying more on their run game with Jonathan Taylor, which has been helping them a lot more. But, I am going to go with the Colts on this one to give the Bears their first loss of the season.

Colts 23 Bears 17

Ravens (2-1) vs. Washington (1-2)

Well, Washington should be worried about this game because Lamar Jackson has a big chip on his shoulder after he embarrassed himself during the Chiefs game. I think this will be a no-doubt win for the Ravens as Washington does not have many weapons on their offense and Dwayne Haskins is your typical young quarterback. So, Jackson will have the time of his life out on the field with Marquise Brown. Although Washington’s defense has improved under new head coach Ron Rivera, it will not be enough to stop the Ravens offense. So, I think the Ravens will come out with a high win against Washington this week.

Ravens 34 Washington 10

Giants (0-3) vs. Rams (2-1)

Well, without Saquon Barkley once again, the Giants might have a repeat of last week. The Giants are without their best player on offense and their running game is a complete mess now. The Rams have had much success with their running game, despite losing Todd Gurley. But, their offense has improved, which is great for them but bad for the Giants. So, the Giants won’t be able to keep up with the Rams in this game and it will not be a close one. The Rams, however, will look good this week, giving them a win in week four.

Rams 34 Giants 17

Patriots (2-1) vs. Chiefs (3-0)

Well, the Patriots have a big game and a big test for them in week four. The Chiefs, at this point, look unstoppable. But, the Patriots are looking good this season as Cam Newton has 674 total yards and the team is averaging around 26 points per game. But, I don’t think their offense will be able to stop Patrick Mahomes and the rest of their offense enough for them to win though. It won’t be a blow out because the Patriots have a good running game with Sony Michel but they need to get the ball to their talented receivers more. So, I think the Cheifs once again, won’t be stopped and will show that they are one of the best teams in the league, if not the best team in the league.

Chiefs 37 Patriots 28

Bills (3-0) vs. Raiders (2-1)

The Bills are looking like one of the best teams in the league right now as they have the fourth-best offense and Josh Allen is putting up great numbers right now. However, the Raiders did have success with the Saints and the Panthers but they looked bad against the Patriots last week. Although, the Raiders could have a chip on their shoulder because of this, so the Bills better come to Las Vegas to play some very good football. However, I think Allen will continue to play great and help lead the Bills to a win but this game will be a close one as the Raiders will use Josh Jacobs and Darren Waller a lot.

Bills 31 Raiders 28

Cardinals (2-1) vs. Panthers (1-2)

The Cardinals had a bad loss last week, especially with Kyler Murray throwing three interceptions, so they will be ready to come back and play like they’re used to. However, the Panthers got their first win of the season last week, but still had some major problems with their defense. Murray and his receivers will take advantage of that and will have himself a great day. The Panthers are also without Christian McCaffrey again, which will not help themselves against the Cardinal’s defense, so this will have them struggling to get going on offense. So, I think the Cardinals will come back with a rebound performance to have them get back on track and will give the Panthers their third loss of the season.

Cardinals 35 Panthers 21

Eagles (0-2-1) vs. 49ers (2-1)

This is a game of two teams that have been hit with lots of injuries, although the 49ers were able to win two games, unlike the Eagles who weren’t. With multiple injuries on their defense, the 49ers need to step up on their pass rush game to get after the quarterback. But Carson Wentz already has enough problems as he is having a terrible season so far. He is tied for the most interceptions and has the worst QB rating in the league. So, the 49ers will not struggle against this weaker Eagles team. No matter if they start Garappolo or his backup, they won’t have much trouble getting going on offense. So, I think the Eagles will continue to have a winless season as the 49ers take over this game to make them 3-1.

49ers 30 Eagles 21

Falcons (0-3) vs. Packers (3-0)

The Packers came to play against the Saints and showed the league that they were just fine not drafting a receiver. Even though their best receiver, Davante Adams, was out with a hamstring injury, their No. 2 receiver Allen Lazard had a fantastic game with 146 yards for 6 catches. They also lead the league in scoring and are the only team without a turnover so far. But, bad luck for the Packers as Lazard is most likely out indefinitely after undergoing a muscle core surgery. But, the Falcons also lead the league in points allowed, so this will be an interesting matchup. The Falcons are still winless, as they gave up another big lead to the Bears last week. I think this will be a great game for the Packers as their defense will come out strong and not give up many big plays. So, I think the Packers will continue to show the league that they are a force to be reckoned with and will remain undefeated going into their bye week.

Packers 35 Falcons 21
