Girls Volleyball: Mustangs Find Success in MSL East
After weeks of hard work and long practices, Varsity girls volleyball began their conference matches with a win over Buffalo Grove, starting off their record 1-0 in conference.
“We had already played various teams, and having to come back from a tough loss (non-conference), we needed to establish our game,” said Jelena Jevtic, a varsity sophomore.
In their second match against Elk Grove on Thursday, September 15th, varsity won their second conference game, improving their record 2-0.
“In this game we really came out of our shells and showed what we had to offer,” said varsity sophomore volleyball player Lucy Pufundt.
In their next match on Tuesday, September 20th at Wheeling, the girls took home the gold once again, adding on to their record 3-0.
In the following match on Thursday, September 22nd at Rolling Meadows, the girls went up against Hersey. The girls unfortunately took a tough loss and it changed their record to 3-1.
In the following week, on Tuesday, September 27, the girls went up against Prospect. The girls played aggressively, making the match a 3 set game. However in the end, the girls ended up losing, hitting their record 3-2.
“The team is working hard to improve upon things to be ready for both teams the second time we play them,” coach Katie Nickle said.
The Prospect game marked the end of the first set of conference games.
The girls started up their second set of conference games on Thursday, September 29th, against Buffalo Grove once again. Although the girls played at Buffalo Grove this time, the girls once again beat them and improved their record 4-2.
Overall, the girls are looking at a good performance in their conference season.
“The team is excited for the second half of conference and they are hoping to finish in the top half of the conference,” stated Nickle.
