The RMHS Mustangs claimed another impressive victory last Friday, defeating their opponent, Maine West. 38-7 in what marked the first game with Coach Troy Cutler leading the team’s strategy. With both players and coaching staff delivering standout performances, the Mustangs look to continue their winning streak.
“I feel great. I’m happy with the kids—they worked hard, and it’s amazing to watch them win and celebrate together as a team,” said Coach Cutler after his debut game. “They followed the game plan and played pretty well. Quincy, our quarterback, really shined this week. It’s great to see the offense building momentum week by week.”
The Mustangs started slowly but quickly gained their footing, a recurring theme noticed by several team members.
“We started off cold, but then we kicked it up and started putting points on the board,” said senior running back Vinnie Piccolo, who also reflected on his own performance. “I had a false start penalty, but in the last drive, I got going, and it turned out pretty good.”
Senior quarterback Quincy Johnson, who continues to lead the offense with precision, echoed similar sentiments about the team’s performance. “We came out a little slow, but we locked in as a team. Vinnie knew what to do, and we came out to win,” said Johnson. Looking ahead to next week’s game, Johnson added, “We go against BJ, and they’re a good team, but I think we should be able to get it done.”
Despite a few penalties, Head Coach Gould was pleased with the overall effort. “The kids played awesome,” Gould said. “We’ve got to stop the penalties—we’ve done that too many times—but I’m happy with how they fought. The entire team played really well.”
With their offense firing on all cylinders and different players stepping up each week, including junior Arman Lepuzanovic’s standout performance this game, the Mustangs are preparing for their next challenge with confidence.
“We’re moving the ball well, and I expect us to keep competing,” said Coach Cutler. “We’ve got the week to practice, and we’ll go out and fight for more points on Friday.”
The Mustangs will face Buffalo Grove High School next Friday, with kickoff at 7:30 PM.
