The RMHS Mustangs suffered a tough 14-41 loss to Prospect High School in their homecoming game on Friday night. Despite their efforts, penalties and execution issues plagued the team, making it difficult to stay competitive against the Knights.
“We just got played, as simple as that,” said Coach Gould after the game. Reflecting on areas for improvement, he added, “We’ve just got to go back and improve our techniques and fundamentals. We need to stop the penalties and put ourselves in a better chance to win the next football game.”
Senior quarterback Quincy Johnson echoed his coach’s thoughts on the team’s struggles. “I think we kind of shot ourselves a lot with the penalties. We just have to execute better next week,” said Johnson. Despite the tough loss, he remains optimistic about the team’s future, saying, “Next game, we keep our heads up. We know what to do, we know we are a good football team, and we know we could have beaten these guys.”
Sophomore running back Luke Harvey felt the weight of the loss but shared a similar determination to move forward. “The team just self-destructed—we’ve got to play together,” said Harvey. Looking ahead, he emphasized the importance of refocusing. “We just gotta push the reset button and play better.”
The Mustangs will have a chance to bounce back as they face Wheeling this Thursday at 7:30 PM at RMHS. With their heads held high, the team is eager to improve and secure a win on their home turf.
