The Empty Corner gallery, a creative event space in downtown Arlington Heights founded by 2024 Friend of the Arts recipient and past Elk Grove High School art teacher Liz Schrenk, recently hosted 214 Rising. The exhibition highlighted the artistic talents of District 214 students alongside works by local artists. The event ran from Sept. 25 to Oct. 9, offering the community a glimpse into the vibrant creative work emerging from the area. The annual exhibition highlights The Empty Corner’s ongoing commitment to supporting local art, fostering collaboration between students and established artists.
Kicking off the exhibition, artist Karen Sako led a mindful sketching workshop for District 214 students. The workshop provided young artists with an opportunity to explore mindfulness techniques through drawing, enhancing their artistic process and creativity.
Among the standout works were pieces by Rolling Meadows High School students, including juniors Reem Fares and Lilia Strutynska, along with sophomore Mayra Mendoza.
